ANNUAL REPORT TO MEMBERS
2020 - 2021

The Annual Report to Members is normally delivered at the Annual Meeting following the final event. Since we were unable to gather at the conclusion of play, we will recap the year with this report and the financial summary (click here to view and download Financial Summary).

We approached the 2020-2021 season with the objective of increasing MGA membership among our Mission Valley members, encouraging more participation in MGA events and increasing our event payouts. We successfully met all those objectives.

But who knew the direction the year would take? On one hand, we had to adjust to the safety restrictions that COVID 19 dictated. On the other hand, we benefited from an increase in Mission Valley membership and renewed enthusiasm for golf as a safe recreational activity.

We transitioned from our usual shotgun starts to tee times. The response of our members was positive. All events experienced an increase in participation. For the first time, MGA members competed in a Season-long Point competition ending in a nine-hole shootout among the top ten finishers. The qualifying players were tightly bunched and the 5 points awarded for participating in each event helped determine the qualifiers. As they say, "You have to play to win."

In total we held 11 competitions with a total of 729 entrants. We paid out a total of $18,840. In addition, we made a contribution to Mission Valley to fund the purchase of a new Bag Rack and Cart Barn Podium. We also made a donation to the family of Domingo Rodriguez, a long-term Mission Valley employee who passed away suddenly.

We instituted an MGA website at www.missionvalleymga.com. Throughout the year we added lots of information about the MGA, coming events, event results and much more. We will continue to look for ways to utilize the website to keep our members informed.

Thank you for your flexibility and enthusiastic participation throughout the season. We had spirited competition from the Opening Event to the final chip-off in Points Cup Shootout with a couple of holes-in-one along the way. We extend a special welcome to our new members. You have added a lot to the Club and the MGA. Hopefully, your MGA participation has helped you connect with other members.

We thank all the Mission Valley staff for their support and assistance as we negotiated a challenging environment. We tried some new approaches and learned some things that will help us in the future.

All current MGA Board Members have at least one more year to serve within their terms. There will be one change in the officers for the coming year. Paul Grovum will devote all his energies to enhancing the website and will give up his responsibilities as Treasurer. The Board has elected Fred Taransky as Treasurer.

We have one more event planned for this summer - an ABCD event. Stay tuned for details and, if you are snowbirds, plan your late summer visit accordingly.

We look forward to the 2021-2022 season with a full slate of events and 237 members. We will continue to listen for your input and look to improve your experience as MGA members.
